How to get to Macau from Hong Kong?

Introduction:

Macau is a beautiful place that used to be owned by Portugal. It’s situated on the western side of the Pearl River Delta. Macau is famous for its exciting casinos, important historical sites, and delicious food. If you’re thinking about going to Macau from Hong Kong, you have two main choices for how to get there: you can take a ferry or a bus. In this guide, we’ll give you all the important details like the schedules and prices for each option, and we’ll explain the advantages of both so you can decide which one is best for you.

There are two main ways to get to Macau from Hong Kong:  by bus or by ferry.

Traveling By Ferry:

The  ferry is the quickest way to reach Macau, with a travel time of approximately one hour. Ferries depart from the Hong Kong China Ferry Terminal in Kowloon, and tickets can be purchased both at the terminal and online. Here’s what you need to know about the ferry service:

      • Two ferry companies, TurboJet and Cotai Water Jet, operate between Hong Kong and Macau.

      • TurboJet ferries run every 1.5 hours from 7:30 am to 6:30 pm (extended until 9:30 pm on Fridays and Saturdays).

      • Cotai Water Jet ferries depart hourly between 8:15 am and 1:15 pm.

      • The fare for a one-way ticket on the ferry is approximately HK$180.

      • Macau’s ferry terminal is situated in the Outer Harbour area.

Benefits of traveling to Macau by ferry:

        • Affordability: Ferry tickets are generally more budget-friendly compared to airfare, particularly when traveling from Hong Kong where the ferry is the sole option.

        • Scenic experience: Enjoy breathtaking views of the South China Sea during your ferry ride, including the picturesque islands that dot the coastline.

        • Convenience: The ferry terminal in Hong Kong is centrally located, allowing for easy access. Moreover, the journey to Macau is relatively short, lasting just over an hour.

        • Flexibility: With numerous ferry departures available, you have greater flexibility in planning your trip. Choose from a variety of ferry companies, each offering its own amenities and services.

Upon arrival in Macau, you can either take a taxi or walk to your hotel from the Macau Ferry Terminal.

      Traveling by Bus:

If you’re seeking an economical option, the bus is the most cost-effective way to travel from Hong Kong to Macau. However, it is also the slowest, taking approximately two hours. Despite the longer duration, buses offer comfort with air-conditioned interiors and ample legroom. Here’s what you need to know about traveling by bus:

          • Buses depart from the Kowloon Motor Bus (KMB) terminal in Tsim Sha Tsui.

          • Tickets can be purchased at the terminal or online. It is advisable to book tickets in advance, especially during peak seasons.

I personally recommend using the “One bus” service, which dropped me conveniently at the main entrance of the Persian Hotel. I booked e-tickets for HK$160, and it was a hassle-free experience.Directions to the “One bus” location from Jordan:

            • Collection Point: Shop B, G/F, The Lodge, 535 Canton Road, Jordan, Kowloon.

            • Exit from Jordan MTR Exit A and walk towards the “One bus” location.

            • Obtain your tickets there, and you will find the “One bus” parked nearby.

Benefits of traveling to Macau by bus:

              • Cost-effective: The bus offers the most affordable transportation option from Hong Kong to Macau.

              • Comfortable: Buses are equipped with air conditioning and spacious seating, providing a comfortable journey.

              • Convenience: Frequent bus departures from Hong Kong to Macau ensure a convenient travel experience.

Upon arrival in Macau, you can explore the city on foot, by taxi, or by using the local bus system.

            Things to Do in Macau:

During your visit to Macau, make sure to indulge in the following activities:
