Discovering Pat Sin Leng Ridge

Hike Distance: The trail spans 11.5 kilometers from start to finish, offering a point-to-point adventure that promises diverse landscapes and captivating views.

Hike Duration: It varies from person to person fitness; for me(beginner-intermediate level), The total moving time is just under 08 to 09 hours with Photo and snack pauses. This hike allows you ample opportunity to soak in breathtaking viewpoints and capture picture-perfect moments along the way.

Hike Difficulty: (8/10) Fear not, but it’s challenging, as this hike is relatively safe, with no treacherous drop-offs to worry about. It may get steep in some sections, but most of the climb involves navigating rocky steps. The real challenge lies in conquering the 856 meters of incline. As you approach the final viewpoint, you’ll choose to take the safe descent or embark on a shorter, more daring route marked by danger signs. While not a necessity, this shortcut adds an element of excitement to your adventure. I would suggest the best time to go is in ( Nov – Jan).

Hike Condition: No shade, Rocky. Take more water and Snacks and Challenge. Hike Incline: Brace yourself for an 856-meter ascent that will leave you both exhilarated and accomplished.

My Experience With The Pat Sin Leng Hike.

My experience tackling the Pat Sin Leng Ridge hike was an epic and challenging adventure. The true excitement began once we reached the Hok Tau Campsite. At the outset, the trail led us down a paved road, and we had a moment to catch our breaths at the Hok Tau Reservoir, a spot so picturesque that it allowed us to gather our thoughts before the demanding journey ahead.

We continued down the paved road until we reached the Hok Tau Family Walk archway. At this point, we diverged onto the Wilson’s Trail, following it for several hundred meters. Thankfully, numerous signs pointed the way to the Pat Sin Leng Ridge, making the path relatively straightforward once we passed through the arch, as depicted below. However, beneath this seemingly simple exterior, the hike concealed a formidable challenge—a journey that extended well beyond the 8-hour mark.

Despite the overall net descent, a significant climb remains due to the ridge’s undulation, even after the main viewpoint. As we reached the top of each set of stairs and conquered small hills, we were faced with a new set of stairs, making this section of the trail quite challenging.

Upon reaching the end of the Pat Sin Leng Ride, we were treated to a magnificent view of Plover Cove and the Sai Kung area in the distance. The suggested path leads down the main route, which takes a longer, looping route towards Tai Po. However, there is an old path that some people still use, though it is marked as “Road Closed.” This shorter path is much more challenging and requires more effort. So, we took the longer route to be safer.
