Vietnam is a land of stunning landscapes, rich history, and vibrant culture. From the bustling streets of Ho Chi Minh City to the serene beaches of Nha Trang, every corner of this beautiful country offers something unique. Whether you’re a foodie, an adventurer, or a culture enthusiast, Vietnam has it all. In this blog, we’ll explore the best cities to visit, delicious foods to try, and convenient travel options to get you around.

Best Cities to Visit

1. Ho Chi Minh City

As the largest city in Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) is a bustling metropolis filled with energy. Key attractions include the War Remnants Museum, Ben Thanh Market, and the stunning Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica. The city’s nightlife is vibrant, with plenty of bars and street food stalls.

2. Hanoi

The capital city, Hanoi, is known for its rich history and cultural heritage. Visit Hoan Kiem Lake, the Old Quarter, and the Temple of Literature. Hanoi’s street food scene is legendary, offering a variety of local dishes that are both delicious and affordable.

3. Nha Trang

Famous for its beautiful beaches, Nha Trang is a perfect destination for sun-seekers and underwater enthusiasts. Enjoy snorkeling in the clear waters, visit the Po Nagar Cham Towers, and take a boat trip to nearby islands. The nightlife here is also lively, with beach bars and clubs.

4. Hoi An

This ancient town is known for its well-preserved architecture and lantern-lit streets. Hoi An offers a unique blend of cultures and is famous for its tailor shops. Don’t forget to try the local specialty, Cao Lau noodles.

5. Da Nang

Da Nang is a coastal city known for its sandy beaches and modern skyline. It’s also the gateway to the ancient town of Hoi An and the Marble Mountains. The city has a growing food scene, with plenty of seafood options.

Best Places to Snorkel in Vietnam

Vietnam boasts some incredible snorkelling locations. Here are a few top spots:

  • Cham Island, Hoi An: A group of eight islands located 15 km from Hoi An, known for its vibrant marine life.
  • Nha Trang Island: Famous for its coral reefs and clear waters, perfect for snorkelling adventures.
  • Phu Quoc Island is renowned for its stunning beaches and diverse sea life.
  • Con Dao Island: Offers beautiful underwater scenery and rich biodiversity.
  • Son Tra, Da Nang: Known for its stunning coral reefs and clear waters.
  • Vinh Hy Bay (Phan Rang): A hidden gem with excellent snorkelling opportunities.

Foods to Try

Vietnamese cuisine is a delightful mix of flavours and textures. Here are some must-try dishes:

  • Pho: This iconic noodle soup is a staple of Vietnamese cuisine, typically made with beef or chicken and fresh herbs.
  • Banh Mi: A delicious sandwich made with a crispy baguette, filled with meats, pickled vegetables, and fresh herbs.
  • Goi Cuon: Also known as fresh spring rolls, these are rice paper rolls filled with shrimp, herbs, and vermicelli noodles.
  • Bun Cha: A Hanoi speciality featuring grilled pork and noodles, served with dipping sauce.
  • Also, don’t forget the Pizza 4Ps. I love the spicy garlic shrimp Pizza

Vietnam is known for its affordability, with meals costing as little as $1-3, making it easy to indulge in a variety of dishes without breaking the bank.

Travelling Between Cities

Travelling in Vietnam is convenient and affordable. Here are some options:

  • Sleeper Bus: I travelled from Nha Trang to Ho Chi Minh City by sleeper bus. The journey took around 6-8 hours, and I took the overnight bus, which was budget-friendly and convenient as I slept throughout the trip, arriving refreshed. You can book the tickets via Klook.
  • Van Services: For shorter distances, shared vans are a comfortable option and can be booked easily online.
  • Domestic Flights: While flying can save time, it does take a bit of time for travelling to and from airports. However, Vietnam Airlines and VietJet offer affordable flights between major cities.

Coffee Culture in Vietnam

Vietnam is famous for its coffee, and here are three types you must try:

  1. Vietnamese Egg Coffee (Cà Phê Trứng): A unique blend of coffee and whipped egg yolk, this creamy drink is a must-try.
  2. Cà Phê Sữa Đá: Iced coffee with sweetened condensed milk, it’s a favourite for hot days.
  3. Drip Coffee (Cà Phê Phin): Brewed with a traditional drip filter, this method allows for a rich and flavorful cup.

Conclusion

Vietnam is a captivating destination that offers diverse experiences for every traveller. From its bustling cities and stunning landscapes to its delicious food and rich culture, there’s something for everyone. Whether you’re exploring the streets of Ho Chi Minh City, snorkelling in Nha Trang, or relaxing on the beaches of Phu Quoc, Vietnam will leave you with unforgettable memories. Pack your bags and get ready for an adventure in this beautiful country!
